The Most Elusive Animal I’ve Ever Photographed
Mountain lion. Puma. Cougar. Panther. Catamount.
Whatever you call this cat, it is revered as one of the most elusive animals in North America, only seen by the luckiest few who were in the right place, at the right time.
Well, I was one of those few.
Over the course of 2 hours, I got to watch a mother mountain lion and her four kittens wrestle, chase one another, groom themselves, and live with true wildness in the Greater Yellowstone Ecosystem. They were hanging out near a deer carcass they were feeding on, and the mother lion was comfortable enough to let us watch from about 150 yards away. It was truly one of those “once-in-ten-lifetimes” encounters, something I feel so lucky to have experienced and been able to document.
